VOCAL COMPETITION
City Theatre is proud to present its second annual Rising Stars vocal competition, where local, up-and-coming singers will be recognized and rewarded for their outstanding talent.
The City Theatre Company Rising Stars Vocal Competition is an exciting opportunity for young singers to demonstrate their vocal abilities, gain performance experience, and compete for cash prizes. Participants will perform selections from a variety of vocal and musical theatre styles before a panel of judges in a supportive and professional performance setting.

Competition Categories
Category One: Ages 12–15
Participants in this division must prepare two (2) selections chosen from the following three categories:

Art Song

Golden Age Musical Theatre (before 1970)

Modern Musical Theatre (after 1970)
First Place Prize: $200
Category Two: Ages 16–20
Participants in this division must prepare three (3) songs. Contestants will select the first song and the judges will select the second of the prepared pieces for performance from the following categories:

One Foreign Language Art Song or Aria

One Modern Musical Theatre Piece (after 1970)

One Golden Age Musical Theatre Piece (before 1970)
First Place Prize: $400
An accompanist will be provided. Please email your sheet music to luke@citytheatreco.org by September 19th at 11:59 PM.
NO acappella performances or MP3 tracks will be accommodated.
Contestants will be randomly assigned 10-minute slots at check-in. Winners are chosen by a panel of judges and announced in person after every contestant has performed in front of the audience.
Payment of the $45 registration fee confirms each singer's slot.
MEET THE JUDGES
Luke Legendre (pianist) is a collaborative pianist, teacher, and director based in Denver, Colorado. Originally from South Louisiana, he has built a career centered on collaborative performance, education, and arts leadership. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is a certified Piano Technician. One of his most impactful projects involved directing a bilingual production featuring Deaf and hearing students. This production layered spoken English, ASL, and visual storytelling. It exemplifies Luke’s passion for art that speaks across communities and languages. As a piano teacher, Luke brings more than eight years of experience working with students of all ages and skill levels. Luke is a member of MTNA, IKCAS, NFCM, and NATS. Luke is currently pursuing graduate studies in Piano Performance at the University of Denver. All of his work is rooted in the belief that music is a powerful tool for connection, growth, and visibility, and he strives to create spaces where every student and collaborator feels seen, heard, and inspired.
Nathan George was born in Texas and grew up in Broomfield, Colorado. He graduated from CU Boulder in 2025 with a degree in Music Education and a minor in Theatre where he was named the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Music. Nathan has experience working with musicians of all ages, in various departments such as choir, private voice lessons, and orchestra. He has music directed for multiple productions with Synthesis Theatre Company, and currently serves as the Choir and Theatre director at Legacy High School. He seeks to continue to perform as well, most recently appearing in Younglife's Broadway to Africa production in 2026. Nathan loves teaching and getting the opportunity to see students grow in ways they never thought possible, and he is excited to continue to work with students in public schools, workshops, clinics, competitions, and more.
American tenor, Brian Stinar is an award-winning instructor, vocalist, director and Bobby G Award recipient. Stinar has received critical acclaim for his "powerful vocal artistry" and his "engaging stage presence". He has sung over 30 leading roles internationally in the genres of opera and musical theater which include Carmen, La Boheme, Romeo and Juliet, Lucia di Lammermoor, Turandot and Pagliacci. Stinar has over 25 years of experience teaching at his private studio and at Denver School of the Arts where he has helped take the productions of Urinetown, Spring Awakening and Kinky Boots to past International Thespian Festivals. Stinar is also a proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Miranda White is a soprano with a lifelong passion for the stage. She has performed in numerous musicals and recently expanded her artistry into opera. Miranda earned her Bachelor of Music in Performance from Metropolitan State University of Denver and maintains her own vocal studio.
Her recent stage credits include Mary Sunshine in Chicago, Apollonia in Joseph Haydn’s La Canterina, the Dew Fairy in Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and the Fairy Godmother in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon. She has also served as Music Director for City Theatre Company’s The Little Mermaid and Oz Adventure.
